Fisker, the electric vehicle startup, can breathe a sigh of relief. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has officially closed its preliminary investigation into nearly 7,745 Fisker Ocean’s SUVs. The culprit? A pesky software glitch that could prevent the vehicle from shifting into park.

The NHTSA opened the probe earlier this year after receiving complaints about unintended vehicle movement. Drivers reported difficulties shifting into park or their desired gear, a situation that could potentially lead to accidents.

To rectify the issue, Fisker issued a recall and rolled out a software update, dubbed “OS 2.0.” This update introduced an “Auto Vehicle Hold” feature, a nifty trick that prevents the vehicle from rolling, making it easier to engage both the park gear and electronic parking brake.

With the software update successfully deployed, the NHTSA has deemed the issue resolved, closing the book on this particular safety investigation.
